Lake - Clatto
Clatto Reservoir is a 9 hectare, former drinking water supply reservoir located on the outskirts of the city of Dundee in Scotland. In recent years, the reservoir has been used for a variety of recreational purposes, however poor water quality during summer months had become more common, causing the reservoir to be closed for extended periods of time due to concerns about public health and safety
Keen to find a solution to this problem, the Dundee City Council commissioned an application of Phoslock in early 2009. The application took place on the 4th and 5th of March 2009 and involved the application of 24 tonnes of Phoslock to the reservoir.
The aim of the application was to target the internal phosphorus load which is the cause for the deteriorated water quality in the reservoir. The results of the application have been impressive and in 2009 the reservoir remained open to the public for the first time in several years during the peak summer period of June to August due to the improved water quality.
